The Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists purpose is to ensure that the public is protected from the unprofessional, improper, unauthorized and unqualified practice of social work and marriage and family therapy.

As of April 1, 2009, the rules and regulations governing Mississippi’s licensure of social workers and marriage and family therapists require a criminal history record information check and a sex offender registry check for each applicant for licensure. The checks must be obtained from the appropriate governmental authority or authorities and must be received by the Board within one-hundred eighty (180) day of the completed application.

When a completing an application for licensure or to take a licensing exam, all applicants must complete the appropriate form and instructions necessary to secure the background and sex offender registy checks. The completed criminal history and sex offender registry checks must be received by the Board office before an individual’s application will be considered for licensure. You may request a copy of the "Authorization To Release Information" form from the Board office to be mailed to you.

ATTENTION ALL LICENSEES:

The continuing education offerings for each discipline (social workers and marriage and family therapists) are approved independently. Licensees should NOT assume that an approved offering for one discipline is also approved for the other discipline. This website maintains separate lists of approved continuing education offerings for social workers and marriage and family therapists
