2021 LMFT RENEWAL NOTICE (LMFTA - keep scrolling)

Dear Licensee,

For all marriage and family therapy licenses that expire on September 30, 2021, please read carefully. 

The following items should be submitted:

  1. Renewal Application
  2. Completed continuing education form:  24 approved MFT continuing education hours of which four (4) hours must be in Board Approved MFT Ethics. All Board approved supervisors, including those with AAMFT Approved Supervisor standing, must complete two (2) approved hours of MFT supervision continuing education each renewal period. Licensees renewing for the first time are NOT REQUIRED to submit continuing education.
  3. Renewal Fee:  $200.00 payable only by money order or cashier’s check to MSBOE SW/MFT.
  4. Please submit renewals to the Board Office by August 30, 2021. Licensees must submit their renewal application by 8/30/2021 to insure that your renewal is processed before the expiration date of your license which is September 30, 2021.
  5. Beginning, 7/1/2020, licensees who were licensed before 1/1/2011, and do not have a fingerprint criminal history record information check on file with the Board, must submit to a current fingerprint criminal history record information check. Please visit www.swmft.ms.gov to download the request for fingerprint card form and return with $50.00 processing fee to the Board.

On-line Renewals will be offered to licensees beginning 8/1/2021 and ending on 9/30/2021. Please follow the online instructions carefully. Go to www.swmft.ms.gov. There will be a convenience fee charged in addition to the renewal fee for online renewals. You must have twenty-four (24) continuing education hours in order to renew your license online.

The last date for a renewal application to be received by the Board without penalty is September 30, 2021. Renewal applications that are mailed or hand-delivered must be in the Board’s office by 5 p.m., September 30, 2021. Renewal received after 9/30/2021 will be considered lapsed. It is unlawful to practice marriage and family therapy with a lapsed license.  Licensees working as a marriage and family therapist with an expired license are subject to disciplinary sanctions by the Board such as revocation or suspension of license. Renewal Applications submitted after September 30, 2021 but before October 30, 2021 will be required to submit a $50.00 late fee in addition to the renewal fee for renewal. Renewal applications received after October 30, 2021 shall be reinstated by following the reinstatement process. A reinstatement application has to be reviewed by the Board at its regularly scheduled Board meeting. A license that has lapsed for more than two (2) years cannot be renewed or reinstated. If you foresee or have experienced hardships/problems due to the COVID-19 Pandemic (i.e. health issues) with the submission of your renewal, please review pages 105-108 of the rules and regulations for continuing education guidelines regarding waivers and the Board’s Proclamation regarding Part 1903, Chapter 4, Rule 4.1(B) and (E). Both can be found on our website at www.swmft.ms.gov.

For all marriage and family therapy associate licenses that expire on September 30, 2021, please read carefully.

 The following items should be submitted by mailed only:

  1. LMFTA Renewal Application
  2. No Continuing Education (CE) Required
  3. LMFTA Renewal Fee:  $100.00 payable only by money order or cashier’s check to MSBOE SW/MFT.
  4. Please submit renewal form to the Board Office by August 30, 2021. Licensees are must submit their renewal application by 8/30/21 to insure that your renewal is processed before the expiration date of your license which is September 30, 2021.

The last date for a renewal application can be received by the Board without penalty is September 30, 2021. Renewal applications must be mailed or hand-delivered and be in the Board’s office by 5 p.m., September 30, 2021. Renewal received after 9/30/2021 will be considered lapsed. You may renew a lapsed licensed within 30 days of expiration by submitting a $50.00 late fee in addition to your renewal fee. A lapsed of more than 30 days will require that you reinstated your license.
